A lot of the artists and other sensitive types I know are undergoing depression right now.
I want to call out to all of these people and say it’s alright. You’re depressed. Of course you are. If you’re not depressed, you’re not paying attention.
As sensitive types, how could we not pick up all the fear and pain of the creatures of the Gulf? How could we not hear the seabirds, turtles, dolphins and so many other beings cry out from the devastation of the oil spill? As sensitive types, how could we not feel in our very bones the growing imbalance caused by global climate change? How could we not be depressed?
So, give yourself credit for feeling all of this so deeply. Don’t just give yourself a break, give yourself credit.
Now, how can you feel the depression and do something anyway? What can you do to proactively work toward the healing of yourself and the whole world? We need you. The planet needs us sensitives more than ever to help perpetuate the healing process.
Many people are feeling helpless right now, but there’s so much to be done. There are 100,000 things you can do. Begin by cleansing yourself, because that energy will affect the whole. Begin by giving directly. Begin by reinvigorating your love for this earth. Here are just a few ideas:
1. Donate money to saving the Gulf sea life.
2. Read a spiritual book to deepen your connection to spirit.
3. If you’re an artist, create a work of art around the gulf spill.
4. Sell a piece of art and donate some of the proceeds.
5. Plant an organic garden.
6. Make amends with someone you’re estranged from.
7. Take a hike in the woods and give nature your heart.
8. Take a spiritually based workshop.
9. Start a blog about the power of nature to spread the love.
10. Today, help somebody. Just help one person.
Even depressed, there’s so much one can do to work toward the healing of this blessed earth. The more you do, I promise the less depressed you will feel.

Thank you for this, Carrie! It has been a rough few weeks and what rose to the surface as I read this was the awareness of the deep well of grief that I hadn’t fully allowed myself to experience (busy keeping it all together!) or express. It occurs to me that SoulCollage (my creative visual method of expressing the depth of my soul) and writing will be important ways I can incorporate right now to allow some healing and expression.
Blessings, Jennifer
